It’s been 25 years since Christina Aguilera<\/strong> released her teen pop classic “Genie in a Bottle,” and she tells the new issue of Glamour<\/em> magazine<\/a>\u00a0about her feelings about her life back then.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t love the bubblegum thing, where you had to play a virgin but not act like one,\u201d she says. \u201cWhen I was performing \u2018Genie\u2019 and \u2018What a Girl Wants\u2019 and \u2018Come on Over,\u2019 I got bored easily. Creatively, it was one-dimensional.\u201d She notes, “Literally every second [of my life] was accounted for in a schedule. You can\u2019t just live your life for work where it\u2019s unenjoyable. You get burnt out.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

But the worst part was the incessant scrutiny of her appearance. \u201cWhen you\u2019re a teenager, you have a very different body than when you\u2019re in your 20s,\u201d she says. \u201cI started to fill out, and then that was unacceptable because it was like, \u2018Oh, she\u2019s getting thicker.\u2019 Then I had industry people [saying] \u2018They liked your body and how you were as a skinny teenager.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite all that, Christina tells Glamour, <\/em>“I think the biggest word that sums up that first record for me is grateful. Being thankful because it got my foot in the door. After 25 years I\u2019m so proud of it.”<\/p>\n

Christina also tells Glamour<\/em> that after three Spanish-language projects, she has a new English-language album\u00a0 on the way, though there’s no release date yet. “I\u2019ve been accumulating [songs],\u201d she says, not sharing details. \u201cI\u2019m actually dying to get it out. I just haven\u2019t fully had time.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, don’t hold your breath waiting for a tour. The mother-of-two says right now she prefers the stability of her Las Vegas residency, but adds, “I don\u2019t want to say that out loud because my fans would be very sad.”<\/p>\n
