Crowded House <\/strong>is\u00a0set to kick off their\u00a0North American tour in support of their latest\u00a0album,\u00a0<\/span>Gravity Stairs<\/span><\/em>, and frontman Neil Finn<\/strong> says he\u2019s looking forward to playing in front of American audiences again.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAmerican audiences seem to be quite open to whatever experiences we throw at them,\u201d Neil tells ABC Audio. \u201cThey give you a lot of freedom. And they also come along … deciding they\u2019re gonna have a good time.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

He adds, \u201cThere can be other places where people are … a little bit standoffish and say, ‘Come on, impress me.’ That doesn’t mean to say Americans are easily impressed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

With a new album of songs to fit in alongside their hits, Neil admits \u201cit\u2019s getting harder\u201d to come up with a set that will please everyone.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThere’s certain songs that we feel compelled and enjoy playing every night that are the touchstones for people, but not every one necessarily needs to be in the set,” he says. “We want to keep it interesting for ourselves.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Of course, hits like \u201cDon\u2019t Dream It\u2019s Over\u201d and other classics will be played, and Neil can\u2019t wait to hear the audiences singing along to them.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the best feeling ever, really,\u201d Neil says. \u201cAnd the amazing thing is that they seem to be in tune collectively. They seem to cancel out all the tone deaf people, and that’s amazing. And they sing harmonies, so it’s wonderful.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Neil\u2019s son Elroy Finn<\/strong>, who plays drums in the band, jokes that the fact their fans sound so good singing their songs must mean \u201cthe majority of people can hold a note.” Neil agrees, sharing, \u201cWe have a very tuneful audience.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
