Every since Lady Gaga<\/strong> was captured on camera\u00a0at the Paris Olympics referring to\u00a0Michael Polansky<\/strong>\u00a0as “my fianc\u00e9,” we’ve assumed that they’re engaged. But thanks to the October issue of Vogue<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, we know when it happened \u2014 and how she feels about it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gaga and Polansky were brought together by her mother, Cynthia Germanotta<\/strong>, who’d met him in 2019 through their mutual philanthropic work. Gaga tells Vogue<\/em>, “She said to me, \u2018I think I just met your husband.\u2019” She added, “I could never have imagined that my mom … found the most perfect person for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

In December 2019, Gaga was invited to a party for Michael’s friend, Napster co-founder Sean Parker<\/strong>. “I said, \u2018I wonder if Michael is going to be there?\u2019 and my mom said yes, and so I went to the \u200bparty and I kept asking for him and he finally came over to me and we talked for three hours,” Gaga reveals. Polansky tells Vogue<\/em>, “I was struck immediately by her warmth and openness.”<\/p>\n

By the time COVID-19 hit, Gaga says, they were in love. They got engaged\u00a0in April after a day of rock climbing.<\/p>\n

“He\u2019s not with me for any other reason than that we are right for each other. But I think what I want my fans to know is that I\u2019m just, like,\u00a0so\u00a0<\/em>happy. I\u2019m healthy.” Noting that during the time of her last album,\u00a0Chromatica,<\/em>\u00a0she was “in a really dark place,” Gaga says after she met Polansky, “Everything started to change.”<\/p>\n

“I kind of thought I was going to have to do this all by myself \u2014\u00a0forever<\/em>,” she reveals. “And that was really scary. Because it\u2019s a big life. And I don\u2019t think anyone really knows what it feels like unless you\u2019re in it. And I don\u2019t have to do this alone anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

In fact, it was Polansky who encouraged Gaga to make a new pop album, which,\u00a0Vogue<\/em> says, is due in February.<\/p>\n
