The Eagles<\/strong> kicked off their Las Vegas Sphere residency\u00a0on Sept. 20\u00a0and took a moment in their show to pay tribute to the late songwriter JD Souther<\/strong>. He\u00a0co-wrote some of their best-known songs, including “Best of My Love,” “New Kid in Town,” “Heartache Tonight,” “Victim of Love” and “James Dean.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI would be remiss if I didn\u2019t acknowledge a couple of people,\u201d Don Henley<\/strong> told the audience, according to <\/span>Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a>. \u201cI want to acknowledge the co-writer of that song who we lost three days ago, Mr. J.D. Souther.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He added, \u201cJ.D. is someone you may know played a pivotal role in the Eagles. He wasn\u2019t in the band but he certainly co-wrote some of our biggest hits.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The tribute came before the band\u2019s last song, \u201cHeartache Tonight,\u201d which Henley also dedicated to the late Jimmy Buffett<\/strong>, who passed away Sept. 1, 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n

As for the rest of the show, <\/span>setlist.fm<\/strong><\/span><\/a> reports that\u00a0Eagles opened with their classic \u201cHotel California\u201d and filled the set with plenty of\u00a0fan favorites, including \u201cLyin\u2019 Eyes,\u201d \u201cTake it to the Limit,\u201d \u201cTequila Sunrise,\u201d \u201cNew Kid in Town,\u201d \u201cLife in the Fast Lane\u201d and \u201cDesperado.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
