But one artist who was advertised as participating says his vocals were used without permission.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=eTApy8ajtL4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Ultimate Mix,<\/strong><\/a>&#8221; created to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original song, uses vocals from artists who&#8217;ve participated in all the different versions of the song that have been made over the years. Those artists, say organizers, include<strong> Sting<\/strong>,<strong> U2<\/strong>&#8216;s<strong> Bono<\/strong>,<strong> Ed Sheeran<\/strong>,<strong> Harry Styles<\/strong>,<strong> Coldplay<\/strong>&#8216;s<strong> Chris Martin<\/strong>,<strong> Sam Smith<\/strong>, the late<strong> George Michael<\/strong> and the late\u00a0<strong>Sin\u00e9ad O&#8217;Connor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>But Ed writes on his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/stories\/teddysphotos\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Instagram Story,<\/strong><\/a> &#8220;My approval wasn&#8217;t sought on this new Band Aid 40 release and had I had the choice I would have respectively declined the use of my vocals.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A decade on and my understanding of the narrative associated with this has changed,&#8221; he wrote, adding a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/stories\/fuseodg\/3503545081497516830\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Story<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0from a British\/Ghanaian singer and rapper named\u00a0<strong>Fuse ODG<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>which he claims &#8220;eloquently explains&#8221; that understanding.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In that Story, Fuse says that all-star charity projects like Band Aid and the subsequent Live Aid concerts\u00a0\u2014 which were created to raise money to end famine in Ethiopia \u2014 &#8220;perpetuate damaging stereotypes that stifle Africa&#8217;s economic growth, tourism and investment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He writes, &#8220;By showcasing dehumanizing imagery, these initiatives fuel pity rather than partnership, discouraging meaningful engagement.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ed adds that he agrees with Fuse&#8217;s post: &#8220;This is just my personal stance. I&#8217;m hoping it&#8217;s a forward-looking one. Love to all x.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The BBC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/crk4lk3ylxvo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>reported<\/strong><\/a> that over the last 40 years, the Band Aid Charitable Trust has raised an estimated $180 million for famine relief and other causes.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2024, ABC Audio.
