Back in September, Elton John<\/strong> revealed that he lost vision in\u00a0one of his eyes, and he now tells <\/span>Good Morning America<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a> his condition has interfered with his attempts to put out a new album.<\/span><\/p>\n

Elton revealed he had a new album in the works at the 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, then said it would be out in 2024 during his year-end message to members of his fan community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

When asked by Robin Roberts<\/strong> for an album update, Elton said, \u201cI don’t know. It\u2019s been awhile since I\u2019ve done anything and I just have to get off my backside,\u201d explaining the issues with his eye delayed things.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s been four months now since I haven\u2019t been able to see. And my left eye\u2019s not the greatest.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Elton said \u201cthere\u2019s hope and encouragement that it will be OK,\u201d but he really hasn\u2019t been able to work on music. \u201cI’m kinda stuck in the moment … going into the studio and recording, I don\u2019t know, because I can\u2019t see a lyric, for start.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re taking an initiative to try and make it better, but at the moment that\u2019s what we\u2019re really concentrating on,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd it kinda floored me, and I can\u2019t see anything, I can\u2019t read anything, I can\u2019t watch anything.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But even with all the challenges he’s faced, Elton, whose new documentary <\/span>Never Too Late<\/span><\/em> debuts Dec. 13 on Disney+, still seems to have a positive attitude.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so lucky, I\u2019m the luckiest man in the world,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m proud of my attitude towards myself and what\u2019s going on. I\u2019m just very lucky and very grateful.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
