The nominees for the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame are usually decided upon in January, and it’s likely that someone will be disappointed when their favorite artist doesn’t get recognized with a nomination.<\/span><\/p>\n

I<\/span>n a new interview with Vulture<\/strong><\/a>, RRHOF Chairman John Sykes<\/strong>\u00a0shares his thoughts on some of the artists\u00a0who have failed to nab a nod.<\/p>\n

One of those artists is\u00a0Phil Collins<\/strong>,\u00a0who’s\u00a0in as a member of Genesis<\/strong>,\u00a0but\u00a0hasn’t been\u00a0recognized for his solo career. Sykes notes, \u201cHe\u2019s come up in meetings so much.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat happens to great artists like Phil Collins, and I could name about four or five more, is that the committee will sometimes say, ‘He\u2019s already in with Genesis,\u2019\u201d Sykes says. \u201cWe have such a backlog of people that need to get in that sometimes great solo artists like Phil can\u2019t get on the ballot because there\u2019s someone who\u2019s not on in any configuration.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

He adds, \u201cI\u2019ll say right now that\u2019s no excuse for not putting Phil Collins in because he\u2019s a great artist.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Sykes also\u00a0says he thinks Sting<\/strong>, an inductee with The Police<\/strong>, should be recognized for his solo career.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve nominated him many times, and I\u2019m the chairman. That shows how this isn\u2019t some backroom organization where decisions are made by a couple of people,\u201d he says. \u201cPeople vote on these things, and they fight like hell.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Sykes also\u00a0says\u00a0The B-52s<\/strong> have come up in conversation, noting, \u201cWe\u2019ve heard passionate pleas for them but they just haven\u2019t made it onto the ballot yet, but I think they will one day.”<\/span><\/p>\n

And Joe Cocker <\/strong>is another artist who’s yet to get a nod.\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cHe hasn\u2019t been able to get through, and I think he\u2019s a deserving name,” Sykes adds.<\/span><\/p>\n
