Elton John<\/strong> has landed another #1 album in the U.K., but it sure took him a long time to get there.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer\u2019s 2017 best-of,\u00a0<\/span>Diamonds<\/span><\/em>, tops the <\/span>U.K. Official Chart<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0after spending\u00a0374 weeks on the chart.\u00a0When the album was first released it debuted at #5 and eventually peaked at #2 \u2014 until now.<\/span><\/p>\n

Diamonds<\/span><\/em> now\u00a0holds the record for having\u00a0both the most weeks in the top 40 and the most consecutive weeks in the top 40 before hitting #1.<\/span>\u00a0And after not dropping out of the top 100 since its release, the album is now the Elton record to spend the most time in the top 100.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m so happy to have a UK #1 album with Diamonds,”\u00a0<\/em>Elton\u00a0wrote on social media<\/strong><\/a>. “It came out in 2017, which feels like a lifetime ago. This is the first time it\u2019s topped the charts since its release, I\u2019m blessed that so many incredible things have happened with my career during that time. I\u2019m overjoyed and want to sincerely thank all my incredible fans for their constant love and support.”<\/p>\n

“What a great start to the year,” he said in an accompanying video. “I could not be happier. Yesss!!!!”<\/p>\n

Elton’s husband and manager, David Furnish<\/strong>, told Music Week<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0that the #1 is “a\u00a0testament to the ongoing relevance of the hardest working artist there is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Diamonds’<\/em>\u00a0recent resurgence is thanks to the release of a super-deluxe Blu-ray edition and a limited-edition vinyl version of the album.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

The album is now Elton\u2019s ninth #1 in the U.K. His previous chart-toppers include 1973\u2019s <\/span>Don\u2019t Shoot Me I\u2019m Only The Piano Player<\/span><\/em> and <\/span>Goodbye Yellow Brick Road<\/span><\/em>;\u00a01974\u2019s <\/span>Caribou<\/span><\/em> and <\/span>Elton John\u2019s Greatest Hits<\/span><\/em>;<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>and 2021\u2019s <\/span>The Lockdown Sessions<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n
