In the ’80s, the U.K. charts were ruled by hits by artists like Rick Astley<\/strong>, Bananarama <\/strong>and Kylie Minogue<\/strong>, created by the songwriting and production team known as Stock Aitken Waterman, consisting of Mike Stock<\/strong>, Matt Aitken<\/strong> and Pete Waterman<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/strong>But now the producers are criticizing current music and, in particular, Sabrina Carpenter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the British tabloid <\/strong>The Sun<\/strong><\/em><\/a>,<\/em>\u00a0Aitken said, “Pop\u00a0music, and particularly pop videos, have become a lot more sexualized than back in the Eighties \u2014 overtly so, for better or for worse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Waterman, 78, added, “And that is incredibly strange given that women\u2019s rights are so protected now. To see Sabrina Carpenter dressed as a little girl is quite offensive. She doesn\u2019t need that.\u00a0She\u2019s got great talent and yet the whole of the industry, these girls come out in as little as possible because they know they\u2019re\u00a0driving\u00a0<\/span>young boys to their websites.”<\/p>\n

Stock, 73, agreed, noting, “They\u2019ve won all of their freedoms and their rights, women.\u00a0They fought for everything they\u2019ve got and now they\u2019re throwing it away, is the way I would look at it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Waterman added, “It\u2019s just crazy. If you\u2019re asking to be respected, don\u2019t come on in a G-string.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stock then said lyrics that talk openly about sex, like in Sabrina’s song “Bed Chem,” are “lazy,” adding, “I\u00a0would never try to write a lyric that said anything specific on a sexual level.”<\/p>\n

The three men seem to have forgotten that they wrote plenty of sexy lyrics for the female artists they worked with \u2014 and who put their sexuality on display. In addition to Bananarama<\/strong><\/a> and Kylie<\/strong><\/a>, the trio worked with topless model\u00a0Samantha Fox<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and with\u00a0Mandy Smith<\/strong><\/a>, who made headlines when at age 13 she became romantically involved with 47-year-old Rolling Stones <\/strong>bassist Bill Wyman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
