A new Netflix documentary shows the challenges facing the U.S. Immigration system, and it features a veteran with New Mexico ties who was deported.
Cesar Lopez served in the Marines for several years. Lopez said it was one of the biggest honors in his life. The veteran shared his deportation story in a new Netflix docu-series called “Immigration Nation.” A few years after leaving the Marines, Lopez was driving through New Mexico, when he was caught with 50 pounds of marijuana. Lopez eventually returned to the United States and used his platform to advocate for deported veterans.
In June, Cesar was pardoned by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham for the crime he committed. He’s still trying to become a U.S. citizen. “Immigration Nation” is currently one of the top trending series on the streaming site.
