{"id":104791,"date":"2024-03-19T00:05:15","date_gmt":"2024-03-19T00:05:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/newstalklc\/judge-rules-access-hollywood-tape-admissible-in-trump-hush-money-trial\/"},"modified":"2024-03-19T00:05:15","modified_gmt":"2024-03-19T00:05:15","slug":"judge-rules-access-hollywood-tape-admissible-in-trump-hush-money-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/newstalklc\/judge-rules-access-hollywood-tape-admissible-in-trump-hush-money-trial\/","title":{"rendered":"Judge rules &#8216;Access Hollywood&#8217; tape admissible in Trump hush money trial"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/syndication.abcaudio.com\/files\/2024-03-18\/GETTYRF_72622_CourtGavel.jpg\" alt><figcaption>Witthaya Prasongsin\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>(NEW YORK) &#8212; The judge overseeing former President Donald Trump\u2019s criminal prosecution in New York has denied Trump\u2019s attempts to exclude the infamous &#8220;Access Hollywood&#8221; tape and testimony from key witnesses from his upcoming criminal trial.<\/p>\n<p>The defense argued Michael Cohen, Trump&#8217;s former lawyer, should not be allowed to testify because he has a history of lying, arguing that calling him to the witness stand would amount to suborning perjury.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Juan Merchan rejected the argument.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Court has been unable to locate any treatise, statute or holding from courts in this jurisdiction or others that support defendant\u2019s rational that a particular witness should be kept off the witness stand because his credibility has been previously called into question,\u201d Merchan said.<\/p>\n<p>He also will allow Stormy Daniels to testify since she is the recipient of the $130,000 hush payment at the center of the case, writing, \u201cThe probative value of the evidence is evident.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Merchan declined to omit the &#8220;Access Hollywood&#8221; tape in which Trump is overheard bragging about how he approaches women.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s criminal trial in New York has been delayed until at least mid-April.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2024, ABC Audio.
