(WASHINGTON) — A man employed by the U.S. government abroad was charged with<\/span>\u00a0leaking what appears to be Israel\u2019s plans to retaliate against Iran<\/span><\/a>, according to sources familiar with the matter and charging documents unsealed Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Asif William Rahman is charged with willful transmission of national defense information, according to a court documents.<\/span><\/p>\n

The documents are vague about what exactly he allegedly shared, but sources have confirmed that the charges are related to the leak reported widely last month — although it\u2019s not immediately clear whether Rahman is believed to be the primary source of the leak.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Rahman was arrested in Cambodia and brought to Guam, according to the charging documents.<\/span><\/p>\n

In October, documents purporting to be Israel\u2019s retaliation plans were leaked on the internet, possibly exposing plans for the American ally \u2013 a deep breach of national security.<\/span><\/p>\n

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters in October that they are taking the situation \u201cvery seriously.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>New York<\/span><\/a>\u00a0Times was first to\u00a0<\/span>report<\/span><\/a>\u00a0on Rahman\u2019s arrest.<\/span><\/p>\n
