Kennedy Jr. to be secretary of Health and Human Services in his administration.<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy has been an anti-vaccine activist and founded the Children&#8217;s Health Defense, a prominent anti-vaccine nonprofit that has campaigned against immunizations and other public health measures like water fluoridation. Medical experts expressed concerns about a rise in medical misinformation through Kennedy&#8217;s candidacy.<\/p>\n<p>HHS oversees major health agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Medicare &amp; Medicaid Services, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. John Duarte, R-Calif., raised concerns about the pick, saying, \u201cWell, all my kids are vaccinated and I hope he\u2019s not going to move against one of the most life-saving technologies in the history of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked if Kennedy was the right choice, Duarte responded, &#8220;I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d like to see more of his opinions and more of his thoughts in different matters, but the anti-vaccine mantra scares me a lot,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>There was no immediate reaction from senators, who would vote on Kennedy&#8217;s nomination.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, laughed when asked for an opinion, saying \u201cIt\u2019s the president\u2019s prerogative. I am not a senator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, called the news &#8220;fantastic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Robert\u2019s a friend now for a few years, we&#8217;ve been talking a lot,\u201d Roy said.<\/p>\n<p>Roy said there&#8217;s a need to be \u201cdisrupting the corruption\u201d in federal health agencies, which he expects Kennedy to accomplish.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., called Kennedy&#8217;s selection a \u201cgreat pick.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood pick on the president\u2019s part, as all of them have been, and he\u2019ll do a good job,\u201d Norman said. \u201cPeople say, &#8216;Well, he\u2019s a Democrat.&#8217; Look, he\u2019s got an interest, he\u2019s got an interest, a passion for the medical field. He\u2019ll do a good job in it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., said Trump is building a &#8220;diverse&#8221; Cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He\u2019s bringing in Republicans, Democrats.
