{"id":108172,"date":"2024-12-12T18:03:52","date_gmt":"2024-12-12T18:03:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/newstalklc\/unitedhealthcare-ceo-killing-latest-new-york-prosecutors-presenting-evidence-to-grand-jury-sources-say\/"},"modified":"2024-12-12T18:03:52","modified_gmt":"2024-12-12T18:03:52","slug":"unitedhealthcare-ceo-killing-latest-new-york-prosecutors-presenting-evidence-to-grand-jury-sources-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/newstalklc\/unitedhealthcare-ceo-killing-latest-new-york-prosecutors-presenting-evidence-to-grand-jury-sources-say\/","title":{"rendered":"UnitedHealthcare CEO killing latest: New York prosecutors presenting evidence to grand jury, sources say"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/syndication.abcaudio.com\/files\/2024-12-12\/N_%20LuigiMangioneABCNewsPhoto_121024.jpg\" alt><figcaption>Luigi Mangione is seen inside the police station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Dec. 9, 2024\/Obtained by ABC News<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>(NEW YORK) &#8212; Prosecutors at the Manhattan District Attorney&#8217;s Office have begun presenting evidence to a grand jury as they work to secure an indictment against\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/unitedhealthcare-ceo-shooting-suspect\/story?id=116460289\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Luigi Mangione<\/a>\u00a0for the killing of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/unitedhealth-group-slain-ceo-brian-thompson-good-guys\/story?id=116705908\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson<\/a>, sources told ABC News.<\/p>\n<p>The DA&#8217;s office declined to comment due to the secrecy surrounding grand jury matters.<\/p>\n<p>An indictment could strengthen the case for extradition, which Mangione is fighting.<\/p>\n<p>The 26-year-old Ivy League graduate remains in custody at a Pennsylvania state prison after a judge denied bail on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He has constitutional rights and that&#8217;s what he&#8217;s doing&#8221; in challenging the interstate transfer, defense attorney Thomas Dickey told reporters on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Mangione was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/unitedhealthcare-ceo-killing-hotel-clerk-cagey-suspect-sought\/story?id=116674093\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">apprehended in Altoona, Pennsylvania<\/a>, on Monday after nearly one week on the run following the Dec. 4 slaying.<\/p>\n<p>Three shell casings recovered outside the Midtown Manhattan hotel where Thompson was fatally shot match the gun allegedly found on Mangione when he was arrested, police announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Fingerprints recovered from a water bottle and a Kind bar near the crime scene have also been matched to Mangione, police said.<\/p>\n<p>In Pennsylvania, he faces charges including allegedly possessing an untraceable ghost gun.<\/p>\n<p>In New York, he faces charges including second-degree murder.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2024, ABC Audio.
