{"id":108623,"date":"2025-01-23T00:03:38","date_gmt":"2025-01-23T00:03:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/newstalklc\/1-student-killed-1-hurt-in-shooting-at-nashville-high-school-suspect-dead-from-self-inflicted-wound\/"},"modified":"2025-01-23T00:03:38","modified_gmt":"2025-01-23T00:03:38","slug":"1-student-killed-1-hurt-in-shooting-at-nashville-high-school-suspect-dead-from-self-inflicted-wound","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/newstalklc\/1-student-killed-1-hurt-in-shooting-at-nashville-high-school-suspect-dead-from-self-inflicted-wound\/","title":{"rendered":"1 student killed, 1 hurt in shooting at Nashville high school; suspect dead from self-inflicted wound"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/syndication.abcaudio.com\/files\/2025-01-22\/ABC_BreakingNews_091224%20%281%29.jpg\" alt><figcaption>ABC News<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) &#8212; \u00a0A 17-year-old boy opened fire at his Nashville high school on Wednesday, killing one student and wounding a second student, according to police.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Solomon Henderson, who was armed with a pistol, fired multiple shots in the cafeteria at Antioch High School around 11:09 a.m., Nashville police said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Henderson confronted a 16-year-old girl, Josselin Corea Escalante, in the cafeteria and shot and killed her, Nashville Police Chief John Drake said at a news conference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Another victim, a 17-old-boy, was injured with a graze wound and has been treated and released from the hospital, Drake said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head while he was in the cafeteria, police said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Another student was transported to the hospital after suffering a facial injury from a fall, police said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The suspect rode the bus to school Wednesday morning and later went to the bathroom to &#8220;retrieve his weapon,&#8221; Drake said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A motive is not known, police said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8220;There are some materials on the internet that we&#8217;re looking at,&#8221; Drake said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It&#8217;s not yet clear where the suspect obtained the gun, Drake said. Police have reached a parent of the suspect, he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee wrote on social media, &#8220;I\u2019ve been briefed on the incident at Antioch High School and am grateful for law enforcement\u00a0&amp; first responders who responded quickly. &#8230; I join Tennesseans in praying for the victims, their families\u00a0&amp; the school community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The White House is also monitoring the shooting.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2025, ABC Audio.
