{"id":108888,"date":"2025-02-11T18:03:40","date_gmt":"2025-02-11T18:03:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/newstalklc\/off-duty-corrections-officer-killed-in-targeted-attack-police\/"},"modified":"2025-02-11T18:03:40","modified_gmt":"2025-02-11T18:03:40","slug":"off-duty-corrections-officer-killed-in-targeted-attack-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/newstalklc\/off-duty-corrections-officer-killed-in-targeted-attack-police\/","title":{"rendered":"Off-duty corrections officer killed in &#8216;targeted&#8217; attack: Police"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/syndication.abcaudio.com\/files\/2025-02-11\/GETTYRF_101422_PoliceBelt_Thinkstock%20Images%20%281%29.jpg\" alt><figcaption>Thinkstock Images\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>(PALM BEACH, Fla.) &#8212; An off-duty corrections officer in Florida was shot and killed in a \u201ctargeted attack,\u201d according to police.<\/p>\n<p>The incident occurred at 7:32 p.m. when deputies from the Palm Beach Sheriff\u2019s Office in Florida were dispatched to reports of gunfire in the 1400 block of NW Avenue D, in Belle Glade, according to a statement from the Palm Beach Sheriff\u2019s Office on Tuesday<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe victim is an off-duty PBSO Corrections Deputy, who was taken to St. Mary\u2019s Hospital, but unfortunately was pronounced dead shortly after arriving,\u201d authorities said. \u201cFurther investigation determined that this incident was targeted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Officials have not yet named the deputy but did confirm that the officer killed was 39-years-old and had been with the agency for three years, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities also did not release any information on their investigation or why they were able to conclude that the attack was targeted at the officer involved.<\/p>\n<p>A ceremonial escort took place on Tuesday evening in honor of the slain offifer from St. Mary\u2019s Hospital to the Medical Examiner\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are distraught to say the least,\u201d said the Palm Beach Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities said that additional information will be provided as it becomes available.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation is currently open and ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2025, ABC Audio.
