NMSU Men’s Basketball Season Cancelled
The remainder of the NMSU Men’s basketball season has been cancelled after a police report outlined various breaches of university policy within the program. On February 10th, NMSU police received a report of potential assault. The police report later elaborated on the hazing allegations, specifying instances of harassment, criminal sexual contact, and false imprisonment.
The victim, a player on the NMSU men’s squad, said he had been hazed since approximately July/August of last year, most recently as February 6th. The report stated that three of his teammates were the source of the hazing. According to the report for the 6th, the three players held the victim face down, removed his clothes, and degraded him. It’s reported that the entire team was present, but nobody stepped in to stop the situation. Although the victim named the three teammates directly responsible for the hazing, he does not want to pursue criminal charges at this time.
The Women’s basketball program remains intact and fully operational as the Aggies look to snap a three-game losing streak with a game against Seattle U on Thursday, the 16th, at 6:00PM in the Pan American Center.
