Nutcracker Ballet returns to Las Cruces for 39th annual production

Not just any tradition, but Las Cruces’ very own original “Nutcracker Ballet”.  The Las Cruces Chamber Ballet presents its 39th annual full production of a Christmas staple.  This year’s special treat will be Miss Brigid (Walker) Coles as Sugarplum Fairy and Snow Queen.  Trained at Michele’s Dance Academy, Brigid pursued a professional career with Russian teachers in Chicago, Royal Ballet in London, and continued with National Ballet of Canada.  She has graciously agreed to bring her incredible talent back home in hopes of inspiring other young and upcoming area ballerinas.

Also new this year, Michele’s Dance Academy’s contemporary dance group, Chrysalis, will be featured in “Waltz of the Flowers” and “Battle Scene” with choreography by Applehelen Kirby.

Local leading dancers will include Rae Millette as Clara, Hailey Ash as Fritz, Chloe Dutton as Ballerina Doll and Dew Drop, Kinley Cartwright as Soldier Doll and Chocolate, and Alexandra GoodTracks as Coffee. Charlene Manning has been Ballet Mistress of the Las Cruces Chamber Ballet for over 27 years and will be making her debut performance as Herr Drosselmeyer.

With giant toy drums, growing trees and clocks, life-sized rocking horse, and falling snow, our 39 years of “The Nutcracker Ballet” has proven to be both a gift and treasure to thousands of dancers and patrons.

All performances are at NMSU Atkinson Music Recital Hall, on the horseshoe, Dec. 16th & Dec. 17th at 7:00, matinee on Dec. 17th at 2:00.  For ticket information visit lascruceschamberballet.org or michelesdanceacademy.biz.
