Safe Routes to School Hosts the Family Bike Fiesta Saturday
The Las Cruces Public Schools’ Safe Routes to School Program will offer a bicycle education event at Lynn Community Middle School from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 30. The Family Bike Fiesta is free and open to all students in the LCPS district.
According to Ashleigh Curry, LCPS Safe Routes to School Coordinator, the Family Bike Fiesta offers kids an opportunity to learn all about bicycle safety, how to ride without training wheels, and – most importantly – the rules of the road. Minor bike fixes and flat repair will be available on site, along with a bicycle spa to get bikes nice and clean. The event will feature a Bike Rodeo and a Family Bike Ride at 11:30 a.m.
Free kids’ helmets will be given away (while supplies last) and kids can either bring their own bike to participate or borrow one on a first come, first served basis. The Family Bike Fiesta is in advance of National Bike to School week, May 3-6. For more information on Safe Routes to School, click here.
