Send Cheer to Our Local Veterans: DVS launches Operation Holiday Cheer 2023

DVS launches Operation Holiday Cheer 2023

Bring joy to residents and staff at the State Veterans’ Home and Fort Bayard

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Veterans Services (DVS) is excited to kick off Operation Holiday Cheer 2023Join us in spreading joy to residents and staff at the State Veterans’ Home in Truth or Consequences, and the veterans wing of Fort Bayard Medical Center.

Many resident veterans lack family connections, experiencing limited or no contact throughout the year, not just during the holidays. Additionally, staff at both facilities dedicate themselves to year-round, round-the-clock care for the residents, even during the holiday season.

“DVS is asking New Mexicans to send a little holiday cheer to these veterans and staff and let them know they are on our minds this holiday season,” said DVS Acting Cabinet Secretary Jamison A. Herrera. “Please let the veterans know we are grateful for their service to our state and country, and let the staff know we appreciate them for caring for these veterans.”

How you can help:

  • Send cards directly to the homes.
  • Residents: Address cards with “Dear Veteran” or “Dear Hero” and include a short message of appreciation for the military service.
  • Staff: Address cards “Dear Frontline Hero” or “Dear Veterans’ Home Staff Member” and express gratitude for their care.
