Amazon customers who have relied on sharing Prime shipping benefits outside their households will soon see that perk come to an end.
The company confirmed it is phasing out the Prime Invitee Program, which since 2009 allowed members to extend free shipping benefits to friends or family who did not live at the same address.
In a statement to ABC News, an Amazon representative said, “The Invitee Program, which enabled sharing of the Prime shipping benefit only, is being phased out.”
According to email notices sent to members, the program will officially end on October 1, 2025. Amazon said all invited guests will be notified directly about the change by September 5, 2025.
In an email sent to members, Amazon wrote:
“We are writing to inform you that the Prime Invitee Program, which allowed sharing Prime’s fast, free delivery with others, will end on October 1, 2025. Your invited guests will be notified directly about this change by September 5, 2025.”
While the Invitee Program is ending, Prime members can still share their benefits through Amazon Family (previously known as Amazon Household). This option allows members to share a wide range of benefits with one other adult in their household—such as a spouse, partner, or roommate—and extend Prime Video, Kindle eBooks, audiobooks, and games to up to four children.
Amazon Prime membership currently costs $139 per year or $14.99 per month.
