LAS CRUCES – University police are searching for a suspect after an attempted kidnapping near the New Mexico State University campus Tuesday night March 17th.
According to a Campus Safety Alert issued by NMSU, the incident happened around 11:15 p.m. in the area of Arrowhead Drive and Sam Steel Way, where a woman jogging in the area was approached by a suspect who attempted to pull her into his vehicle.
The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic man with long, dark, wavy hair and facial hair. The victim was able to free herself before the suspect fled the area in a grey sedan.
NMSU Police say they are increasing patrols around campus following the incident and are asking anyone who may have seen anything or has information to contact authorities at 575-646-3311.
Officials are also reminding students and staff to remain vigilant, especially at night, to use the buddy system, and to take advantage of the department’s safe escort program. Escorts are available by calling 575-646-3311.
