Eight students from Doña Ana Community College (DACC) are now headed to a national competition after winning first place at the recent SkillsUSA statewide event.
Seventeen DACC students took home awards from the New Mexico SkillsUSA competition held March 26-29th in Albuquerque, NM. Of that number, eight students won nine gold medals, six won silver and three placed in bronze during the competition which prepares students for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations. The eight gold medalists now qualify and are invited to participate in the National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, Georgia this June. All eight DACC students will be representing the state of New Mexico.
The gold medalists are as follows:
  • Julia Sanchez-Lizalde, architectural drafting
  • Tiffany Monarco, computer programming
  • Julien Beltran, information technology services & job demo
  • Samiel Thai & Thomas Tucker, cybersecurity
  • Shaquelle Pettes, technical computer applications
  • Jessica Nisbett, extemporaneous speech
  • Tony Malak, customer service
DACC students competed in areas from customer service, extemporaneous speech, job demonstration and interview, culinary arts, architectural drafting, cyber security, internetworking, computer programming, related technical math, and sheet metal fabrication.
