Yesterday (March 3rd), Housing New Mexico representatives joined partners and community leaders for the grand opening of the Hozho Center for Personal Enhancement to celebrate the peer-run wellness center that supports individuals experiencing substance use disorders and/or homelessness.

The Hozho Center – located in McKinley County near Gallup – received a funding award of $969,499 through Housing New Mexico’s Recovery Housing Program. The intent of the program is to support individuals in recovery from substance use disorders on a path to self-sufficiency by providing stable, temporary recovery housing. Recovery housing is a safe, healthy, family-like substance-free living environment that supports individuals in recovery from addiction.

Housing New Mexico Community Development Supervisor Jackie Homet spoke at the grand opening.

“The Hozho Center for Personal Enhancement is truly a reflection of the importance of partnerships among the housing community,” said Homet. “Through our Recovery Housing Program, we look forward to working with our partners toward the common goal of supporting individuals in need of this service and providing safe housing for those on a journey to recovery.”

“The Hozho Recovery Home is the missing link for enabling long-term recovery assistance in McKinley County,” said Hozho Center for Personal Enhancement Executive Director Ken Collins. “Without long-term residential support, many people get caught up in the revolving door of detox-jail-treatment-death. Thank you, New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority (Housing New Mexico) for supporting us in our attempt to end the scourge of alcohol and drugs in our community. I would also like to recognize Brian Wilson, Hozho Center House Manager, who grew up in Gallup and brings his knowledge and life experience as a Certified Peer Support Worker to lead our program.”
