Las Cruces Woman Arrested on Multiple Identity Theft Charges

A 37-year-old woman in Las Cruces was arrested Thursday and charged with over 100 crimes relating to identity theft. KFOX reports Jail records show Karen Michelle Montoya was arrested Thursday morning and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center, where she was charged with:

• 82 counts of receiving stolen property
• 21 counts of stolen identity
• eight forgery

Authorities said the charges stem from an investigation that started back in 2023. According to the statement of facts, it all started back on December 6, 2023, when a victim reported someone had broken into their car and stolen some items, including their checkbook.
