LAS CRUCES — Roadrunner Transit is celebrating a major milestone this month, marking 40 years of providing public transportation services to the Las Cruces community while also recognizing the employees who help keep the system running safely each day.
Roadrunner Transit began operations on April 21, 1986, and has since provided reliable and accessible transportation connecting residents to work, school, medical services, shopping, and recreational activities. Over the past four decades, the transit system has played a key role in supporting mobility and independence for thousands of riders across the city.
In conjunction with the anniversary, Roadrunner Transit is also observing April as Driver Appreciation Month. Throughout the month, the agency will recognize drivers for their dedication and professionalism, highlighting individuals who demonstrate outstanding service and a strong commitment to passenger safety and customer care. Officials say the recognition efforts are intended to acknowledge the essential role drivers play in maintaining dependable daily service.
City officials note that Roadrunner Transit has continued to adapt and grow to meet the changing transportation needs of the community. The system currently offers both Fixed Route bus service and the Vamonos paratransit service, providing specialized transportation for individuals with mobility challenges. Riders can also access real-time route tracking through the PassioGo and Via mobile applications, helping improve convenience and accessibility for passengers.
Roadrunner Transit is located at 300 West Lohman Avenue and operates Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The service currently operates with zero fare for all riders.
