A tragic shooting occurred on the morning of August 27th at Annunciation Catholic School during morning mass in Miniopolis, Minnesota. Law enforcement stated the shooter approached the side of the building and opened fire through a window, leaving two children dead and 17 others injured.

The shooting started around 8:30 am during the first week of school. The shooter was identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, who was armed with a rifle, shotgun, and pistol.

The two children, 8 and 10 years old, were fatally shot while seventeen others, fourteen children and three parishioners, sustained injuries. All injured are expected to survive.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara called the attack a “deliberate act of violence against innocent children and other people worshiping.”

“This sheer cruelty and cowardice of firing into a church full of children is absolutely incomprehensible,” O’Hara said in a press conference. “The coward who fired these shots ultimately took his own life in the rear of the church.”

Witnesses report hearing up to 50 gunshots. Emergency services arrived within minutes, and the school was evacuated. Footage caught shows parents walking away with their children, scared but safe.

The FBI is investigating and states this was “an act of domestic terrorism and hate targeting catholics”.

It was unclear what the connection between Westman and the school is. More details will be released as the investigation continues.
