Sonoma Elementary School is marking a major milestone this spring by celebrating its 20th anniversary with a special community race event.
The school will host a 5K run and a one-mile fun run on Saturday, April 11, at the track and field at Organ Mountain High School. The race is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m., with participants of all ages invited to take part in the celebration.
Organizers say the event is designed to bring together students, families, staff, alumni, and community members while promoting health, fitness, and school pride. The one-mile run provides a shorter option for younger runners and those seeking a more relaxed pace, while the 5K offers a competitive challenge for experienced runners.
The race is part of Sonoma Elementary’s broader 20th anniversary celebration, highlighting two decades of education, community involvement, and student achievement in the Las Cruces area.
Participants are encouraged to arrive early for check-in and warm-ups before the start time. Proceeds from the event will support school programs and future student activities.
Community members interested in participating can register in advance, and spectators are also welcome to attend and cheer on runners during the event. Organizers say they hope the celebration will not only honor the school’s history but also bring the community together for a fun and active morning.
