LAS CRUCES, NM – In the aftermath of the tragic mass shooting at Young Park on March 21, 2025, Tawney, Acosta & Chaparro P.C., a leading personal injury law firm, has donated $25,000 to the Together Las Cruces Crisis Action Fund held within the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico (CFSNM), an emergency relief fund that has been activated to support those affected by this senseless act of violence.

“Our hearts are broken for the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives and for the many who are now facing unimaginable pain and uncertainty,” said James Tawney, partner and co-founder of Tawney, Acosta & Chaparro P.C. “Las Cruces is our home. This community is family. My partners, Alejandro Acosta, III, Daisy Chaparro, and I felt compelled to act, to offer not only our prayers but also tangible support to help our neighbors heal.”

The shooting, which happened during an unsanctioned car show, resulted in the loss of three young lives—Andrew Madrid, 16; Jason Gomez, 18; and Dominick Estrada, 19—and left 15 others injured. The Las Cruces Police Department has arrested two suspects in connection with the shooting.

The Together Las Cruces Crisis Action Fund serves as a vital resource within the CFSNM, enabling our Las Cruces community to unite and offer immediate support during times of tragedy and devastation. In previous years, the fund has been instrumental in aiding the Doña Ana community through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, CFSNM has extended its support to other crises through the Greatest Needs Impact Fund, offering essential aid to those affected by wildfires and flooding in Lincoln, Otero, and Chaves counties.

“We are grateful for Tawney, Acosta & Chaparro P.C.’s generous donation,” said Terra V. Winter, President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico. “Their commitment to standing beside the victims’ families at a time of such grief speaks volumes. Together, as a community, we can show these families they are not alone and that Las Cruces stands united.”

Tawney, Acosta & Chaparro P.C. is deeply rooted in the Las Cruces community and has a long-standing commitment to giving back. Over the years, the firm has actively supported numerous local initiatives, including contributing to nonprofit organizations that serve families in need. The Tawney, Acosta & Chaparro team believes in not only advocating for clients inside the courtroom but also uplifting the broader community through volunteer efforts, charitable donations, and active civic engagement.

Tawney, Acosta & Chaparro P.C. encourages others—businesses and individuals alike—to contribute to the Together Las Cruces Crisis Action Fund.

“Our Las Cruces community comes together in times of tragedy and crisis,” said Tawney. “Now is the time to remind every family affected that our community sees them, mourns with them, and will continue to support them in the days and months ahead.”
