Doña Ana Community College (DACC)’s Library will be showing free films in honor of Black History Month.
The first film, Alice, was released in 2022 and is inspired by true events. It follows a woman’s journey from enslavement to freedom, blending history with a story of resilience and empowerment. Alice will be available to watch Wednesday, February 12th from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. inside the East Mesa Campus Library, 2800 N. Sonoma Ranch Blvd. in building DAAR, room 203F.
The second film will be Mary Lou Williams: The Lady Who Swings the Band. This film, released in 2015, is a documentary which highlights the life and legacy of jazz pianist, composer and arranger Mary Lou Williams. Williams overcame barriers to shape the sounds of swing, bebop and beyond. The screening will take place on Thursday, February 27th at noon inside the Espina Campus, 3400 S. Espina, in the DASH building, room 98.
