Doña Ana Community College (DACC) is doing its part to help prevent suicide through a run/walk.
The college’s Student Government Association is hosting a Suicide Prevention 5k Walk & Run to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention. The event is being held on Saturday, November 17th at 10 a.m. at the Espina campus, 3400 S. Espina Street. Check-in for the run/walk begins at 9 a.m.
The event for runners costs $20 before November 16th with the cost increasing to $30 on the day of the event. A one mile walk registration fee is $15 before November 16th with the price increasing to $25 on the day of the event. The first 100 participants will receive a free t-shirt. Proceeds benefit the Las Cruces Suicide Prevention Task Force, which provides vital resources and support to those in need. There is no cost for DACC or NMSU students.
 According to the CDC, suicide is one of the leading causes of death in America, occurring once every 11 minutes.
