ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A home that benefitted from Housing New Mexico’s NM Energy$mart Weatherization Program was featured at an event today as both the nation and New Mexico celebrated Weatherization Day.
Central New Mexico Housing Corporation – one of Housing New Mexico’s many partners – performed energy-efficient upgrades to the home in Albuquerque. The upgrades included:
- Air sealing and duct work
- Attic insulation
- Electrical panel upgrade
- Evaporative cooler replacement
- High-efficiency furnace
- Mechanical ventilation
- Water heater insulation
- Window replacement
“Constituents that have received weatherization services see a drastic decrease in their energy bills, and we need to remember that this is the real reason we do what we do,” said Isaac Stevens with Central New Mexico Housing Corporation. “Weatherization truly helps New Mexicans save money.”
The NM Energy$mart Weatherization Program’s primary goal is to lower energy costs for low-income households by reducing their energy consumption, while improving their health and safety. Housing New Mexico administers the program through community-based nonprofit organizations offering statewide services.
“Many homes in New Mexico are in need of weatherization services, and I commend all our partners who made the energy-efficient upgrades a reality for the homeowner here today,” said Isidoro Hernandez, Housing New Mexico Executive Director/CEO. “Working together with our partners and those who fund this program, we will continue to have an impact on the lives of New Mexicans.”
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham proclaimed Oct. 30, 2024, as “Weatherization Day” throughout the state of New Mexico. The proclamation may be read in its entirety on the Housing New Mexico website.
In addition to Central New Mexico Housing Corporation and Housing New Mexico, the home updates were made possible by New Mexico Gas Company, New Mexico Health Care Authority Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, PNM and the U.S. Department of Energy. Other partners include Santa Fe Community College Energy Smart Academy and National Association for State Community Services Programs.
