LAS CRUCES – Two public health offices in Las Cruces are providing both flu and COVID-19 vaccinations while supplies last.
There is no charge for the vaccinations, which are available at the Las Cruces Public Health Office, 1170 North Solano Ave., and the East Mesa Public Health Office, 5520 Holman Road. Availability is different, however, for adults and children:
- For adults, flu and COVID-19 vaccines are available only for adults without health insurance.
- For children 18 and under, vaccines are available with or without health insurance. Their vaccinations are covered by the Vaccines for Children program, so all children in New Mexico, regardless of insurance status, can be vaccinated.
Making an appointment is preferred. To schedule vaccinations in Las Cruces or statewide, visit the NM Health Vaccine Portal.
Walk-in appointments are available only on specific days and times: Mondays 1-3 p.m. and Fridays 9-11 a.m. at the Solano Avenue location. At the East Mesa office, it’s Wednesdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (closed for lunch Noon to 1 p.m.)
“Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are updated every year to offer us the best protection against these common viruses,” said Dr. Miranda Durham, Chief Medical Officer of NMDOH. “Getting you and your family vaccinated every season helps reduce the chances of getting sick, missing work or school, or developing serious illness.”
COVID-19 vaccinations are recommended year-round – with everyone encouraged to get the latest vaccination as soon as possible. As of late October, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now recommends two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine six months apart for people 65 years and older and for people who are moderately or severely immunocompromised.
NMDOH recommends yearly flu vaccinations for everyone six months of age and older each flu season – running from October to May – especially anyone in the following high-risk groups:
- Children younger than five years old, but especially children younger than two years old.
- Pregnant individuals up to two weeks post-partum.
- People aged 50 and older.
- People of any age with chronic medical conditions like asthma, diabetes, lung or heart disease.
- People who are immunocompromised.
- People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.
- People who live with or care for anyone at high risk for complications from flu, including healthcare personnel and caregivers of babies younger than six months.
For insured adults, please locate a nearest pharmacy or provider in the community for flu and COVID vaccine. Please see the provider locator map at https://vaccine.doh.nm.gov/ or call 1-833-SWNURSE for assistance.
For more information on vaccinations at either Las Cruces location, please call the Las Cruces Public Health Office at (575) 528-5006.
