Say ‘Boo to the Flu’ – at no cost to you!

Drive-thru vaccinations for children and adults at local hospitals

LAS CRUCES – Flu season is here – and so are two local hospitals back again to offer drive-thru flu shots for everyone six-months and up. It’s the annual Boo to the Flu event from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 19 at both MountainView Regional Medical Center, 4311 E. Lohman Ave. and Three Crosses Regional Hospital, 2650 Samaritan Dr. in Las Cruces while flu vaccine supplies last.

 

Individuals and family members are encouraged to show up early for a place in line to improve their chances of being vaccinated at the event.

 

Flu vaccine is supplied by the New Mexico Department of Health (NMHealth) and will be dispensed free for adults and children at Mountain View Regional Medical Center and adults only at Three Crosses Regional Hospital.

 

“Flu vaccines are updated every year to offer us the best protection against the virus,” said Dr. Miranda Durham, Chief Medical Officer of NMHealth. “Getting you and your family vaccinated every year helps reduce the chances of getting sick, missing work or school, or developing serious illness.”

 

There is no charge for the vaccinations, but anyone with insurance should bring their insurance card, including Medicaid or Medicare, with them.

 

At MountainView Regional Medical Center:

• Everyone ages six months and over can receive drive-thru vaccinations at the hospital’s Medical Plaza. Follow both Traffic Control personnel and the signs labeled “SHOT CLINIC.” MountainView personnel will be available with paperwork and instructions.

At Three Crosses Regional Hospital:

• Vaccinations are available for adults ages 18 and over only. Three Crosses Regional Hospital is located at 2560 Samaritan Drive – just off North Main St. Signs will be posted on both sides of North Main to let you know where to turn. Once on Samaritan Drive, additional signs will clearly mark where on campus to find the drive-thru.

NMHealth recommends yearly flu vaccinations for everyone six months of age and older each flu season – running from October to May – especially for people in the following high-risk groups:

• Children younger than 5 years old, but especially children younger than 2 years old.
• Pregnant individuals up to two weeks postpartum.
• People aged 50 and older.
• People of any age with chronic medical conditions like asthma, diabetes, lung or heart disease.
• People who are immunocompromised.
• People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.
• People who live with or care for anyone at high risk for complications from flu, including healthcare personnel and caregivers of babies younger than six months.
