The Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico (CFSNM), in partnership with the Chase Foundation, announced the creation of a donor advised fund.

The fund will manage the $10.5 million donation left by Mark Chase in his estate, to benefit organizations in need in southeast New Mexico. The legendary generosity of Chase and his wife, Marilyn, lives on in the Artesia community through their children and the legacy they have left behind.

“This is just another effort that you see in which the Chase Family will be reaching out in the Southeast New Mexico area to try to help various groups and organizations,” Chase Foundation Director Richard Price said. “There’s going to be a wide variety of organizations supported.”

Chase’s donation facilitates a partnership that allows the Chase Family and Chase Foundation to collaborate with CFSNM to identify needs in southeast New Mexico and uplift those communities. Alan Brown, the Chase Family estate lawyer, has worked with the family for over 20 years. He partnered with Brad Bartek, trustee of the Chase Family Trusts and chief financial officer of Mack Energy Corp.; Crissa Carter, trustee of the Chase Family Trusts and vice president of Mack Energy Corp.; and Khim Varner, vice president and tax manager of Mack Energy Corp., to find and implement Mack and Marilyn’s wishes for future community philanthropy.

“We’re really excited to expand our working partnership in this area,” said Terra V. Winter, President and CEO of the CFSNM. “Usually, when there’s a gift like this, it starts a ripple in the community, and we’re hoping to see that ripple continue to grow in the southeast portion of the state.”

Price shared that the Donor Advised Fund held within the CFSNM will provide the opportunity to expand the philanthropic efforts of the Chase Foundation in the Artesia community while also looking to expand throughout southeastern New Mexico.

“This is just a different avenue of reaching out,” Price said. “We’re very excited about this partnership. CFSNM and the Chase Foundation have the same values, and we’re really going to try to make an impact with this.”

CFSNM receives a significant amount of communication from entities in need of support. This partnership will allow both organizations to come together to address challenges and build on the strengths of the region. As the partnership progresses, additional information will be made available regarding how groups and organizations in southeast New Mexico can apply for funding.

“We’re really excited to partner with CFSNM and continue to show our support not only in our community but in surrounding communities,” said Chance Chase, vice president of Mack Energy Corp. “This is going to help us build on the work we’re doing already, but we’ll be able to make an impact in different ways now. This also opens up a lot of our local programs for outside support.”
