LAS CRUCES – Doña Ana Community College Dental Hygiene Professor Dr. Elmer González has received an international World Dental Hygienist Award.
González was presented the award by the Sunstar Foundation during the International Symposium on Dental Hygiene in Milan, Italy, last month.
The World Dental Hygienist Awards recognize dental hygienists worldwide for outstanding contributions to oral health, including clinical care, research, education and community impact. The awards are presented by the Sunstar Foundation and the International Federation of Dental Hygienists.
González is the first professional from New Mexico to receive the international recognition. He was one of six professionals selected for the award series and was the first recipient in the Academia category.
He currently serves as interim dean of DACC’s Business and Public Services Division and previously served as chair of the college’s Dental Programs department.
