LAS CRUCES — The Doña Ana County Animal Control office will host three free spay and neuter clinics in late July and early August for residents of Organ, La Mesa, and the Village of Doña Ana.
County officials say the clinics are designed to help reduce pet overpopulation and decrease the number of animals entering local shelters.
The clinics will operate from 6 a.m. to noon on the following dates:
• Organ: July 20–22
• La Mesa: July 27–29
• Village of Doña Ana: Aug. 3–5
Participation is limited to residents of these unincorporated Doña Ana County communities. Appointments are required and may be scheduled online. The county is limiting appointments to one pet per client, per day.
Pets must be at least 6 months old, fully vaccinated at least two weeks before surgery, and owners must upload vaccination records through the online appointment portal. Dogs must be on a leash, cats must be transported in secure carriers, and owners are required to bring an e-collar for each pet.
Animal Control said surgeries will not be performed on pets that are ill, injured, pregnant, nursing, in heat, under 6 months old, over 2 years old, obese, under 5 pounds, over 40 pounds, infested with fleas or ticks, aggressive, feral, or not fully vaccinated. Certain breeds, including Dobermans and brachycephalic breeds such as Pugs, Bulldogs, Boxers, and Pekingese, are also ineligible due to increased surgical risks.
Residents can schedule an appointment through the county’s online portal or visit the Doña Ana County website for additional information.
