LAS CRUCES – A 46-year-old man has been arrested following reports of explosions near an RV camper in a desert area south of the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum. Information for this report was provided by KTSM-TV in El Paso.

According to New Mexico State University Police, officers responded to reports of two explosions on the evening of June 9 near an RV located west of a rodeo facility. When officers arrived, they detained David J. Curtis, along with another man and a woman. The two other individuals were later released.

Authorities said a search warrant was executed on the RV and surrounding area by NMSU Police, the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad, and several federal agencies. During the search, investigators reportedly recovered multiple items associated with explosive devices and chemicals.

Curtis was arrested and charged with possession of an explosive or incendiary device. No injuries were reported as a result of the explosions.

The investigation remains ongoing. Law enforcement agencies continue to work with federal authorities and the Elephant Butte Irrigation District because the incident occurred near the Tortugas Dam Retention Area.

Curtis was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center on June 10 and remains in custody. He remains innocent until possibly found guilty by a court of law.
