LAS CRUCES – Doña Ana County Fire Rescue crews assisted county Animal Control officers Wednesday evening in the successful rescue of a cat named “Kitty,” who became trapped in the undercarriage of its owner’s vehicle in Santa Teresa.

Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 5:30 p.m. to a residence off North Country Club Road after the cat’s owner reported hearing loud meowing coming from underneath the vehicle.

Kitty had wandered into the vehicle’s undercarriage and was unable to get out.

The owner initially attempted to locate the cat but had difficulty finding Kitty because of its dark-colored fur and position beneath the vehicle.

Unable to locate the cat, the owner contacted Doña Ana County Animal Control for assistance.

Animal Control personnel responded and subsequently requested additional assistance from Doña Ana County Fire Rescue.

Firefighters from Station 55 arrived and worked alongside Animal Control officers to locate Kitty and carefully remove the cat from the vehicle’s undercarriage.

The coordinated rescue effort was successful, and Kitty was safely reunited with its owner.

According to Doña Ana County officials, the cat was not injured during the incident.

The rescue highlights the cooperation between Doña Ana County Fire Rescue and Animal Control personnel in responding to situations involving animals in need of assistance.
