LAS CRUCES — Drivers can expect lane closures, reduced speed limits and periodic delays on several roadways in and around Las Cruces during the week of July 26 through Aug. 2.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation reminds motorists to slow down in work zones, obey posted signs and remain alert for workers, heavy equipment and changing traffic patterns. Double fines for speeding in work zones may be in effect. Conditions may change without notice.
On Interstate 25, guardrail and concrete barrier replacement continues from Las Cruces to just north of Doña Ana, between mile markers 6 and 14.2. Traffic control and lane closures will remain in place around the clock in both directions, with reduced speed limits throughout the project. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
At the intersection of University Avenue and Valley Drive, contractors are relocating crosswalk push buttons. Turning lanes may be closed between 6:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays. The project is expected to continue through Aug. 14.
In the Mesilla area, the northbound driving and turning lane on NM 28 leading to NM 101, University Avenue, remains closed for road repairs. Drivers should follow posted detours and allow extra travel time. No reopening date has been announced.
In Las Cruces, outside lanes approaching the intersection of Lohman Avenue and Walnut Street are temporarily closed for roadway and signal improvements. Those closures are expected to remain in place until about Aug. 7.
Elsewhere in the region, soil sampling work may cause closures near the US 180 and NM 90 intersection in Silver City from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 14.
The NM 213 and NM 404 widening project in Chaparral remains suspended because of issues affecting construction. Work is expected to resume in mid- to late August.
Drivers traveling farther north should also be aware of continuing I-25 rehabilitation work near Cuchillo and south of Socorro, where lane closures and reduced speed limits are expected.
