LAS CRUCES – Motorists traveling through Las Cruces and other parts of southern New Mexico can expect several construction zones, lane closures and detours this week as road work continues across the region.

The traffic report covers the week of May 24 through May 31, 2026.

In Las Cruces, J-H Supply Company Inc. is beginning a guardrail and concrete barrier wall project on Interstate 25 from mile marker 6 to mile marker 14.2, covering the area from Las Cruces to just north of Doña Ana. Lane closures will be in place in both directions as crews remove and replace guardrail. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Also in Las Cruces, A Mountain Construction is adjusting manhole covers on NM 101, University Avenue, from Main Street to just past College Avenue. Overnight lane closures will be in place during the project. Motorists are asked to reduce speed, use caution in the work zone and follow all posted signs. The project is expected to be completed by May 29.

North Melendres Street also remains under construction between West Hadley Avenue and West Picacho Avenue. The reconstruction project, also being handled by A Mountain Construction, will keep North Melendres closed to through traffic. Signs and detours will direct drivers around the work zone. The work has been extended and is now expected to be completed by June 8.

Farther north, Mountain States Constructors Inc. is continuing a roadway reconstruction project on I-25 from mile marker 125 to mile marker 139 near San Antonio, south of Socorro. Lane closures will be in place in both the northbound and southbound lanes for milling and paving operations. Speed limits will be reduced throughout the project. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with possible weekend work.

In Truth or Consequences, Roadsafe Traffic Systems will continue pavement marking adjustments along the I-25 Business Loop in the downtown area. Lane closures will be in place as crews finalize striping, place signage and install bollards along the roadway for cyclist safety. The project is expected to take no more than 60 working days. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Motorists should also be aware of possible closures related to White Sands Missile Range. For closure updates, drivers may call WSMR at 575-678-1178 or 575-678-2222.

In all construction zones, motorists are asked to reduce speed, obey posted signs and use extreme caution around heavy equipment and construction personnel. Conditions are subject to change without notice, and double fines for speeding in work zones may be in effect.
