SUNLAND PARK – A Sunland Park woman is facing charges after police say a confrontation ended with an elderly man being stabbed.
According to court documents obtained by KVIA-TV, 31-year-old Sarai Ortiz is accused of stabbing the man during an incident June 1st in the 100 block of Palma in Sunland Park.
Sunland Park police were called to the area after receiving a report of a victim with wounds from a bladed object. When officers arrived, they found the man on the ground with three stab wounds.
The victim told police that Ortiz had stabbed him. He was later transported to University Medical Center of El Paso for treatment.
According to court documents, the 911 caller told officers they had seen Ortiz outside the home, heard the victim screaming for help, and called police.
Ortiz reportedly told officers that she and the victim had been arguing since the night before the stabbing. She also told investigators she had been strangled during the confrontation and tried to get away, although officers reported they did not see visible injuries on Ortiz.
Court documents say Ortiz admitted to stabbing the victim, allegedly telling officers, “I had to stab him.” She reportedly told police she used a kitchen knife and had thrown it away at the home.
Ortiz is facing charges in connection with the incident.
All persons mentioned are to be considered innocent until possibly found guilty by a court.
