MESILLA – A 46-year-old woman was arrested June 19 after authorities responded to a reported residential burglary in progress at a home on McDowell Street in Mesilla.
According to the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office, a caretaker arrived at the residence and noticed a door standing open. After entering the home, the caretaker reportedly heard noises coming from an upstairs area, exited the residence, and contacted dispatch.
Mesilla Marshals and Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and entered the residence. Authorities said they found a woman inside the home and took her into custody.
Investigators later contacted the homeowner, who was reportedly out of town at the time. The homeowner told authorities that no one had permission to be inside the residence.
Deputies also reported finding damage to the home that they allege was caused by the suspect.
The woman was identified as Christi Marie Poston, 46. She was charged with burglary of a dwelling, breaking and entering, criminal trespass, and two counts of failure to comply with conditions of release.
All persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
