LAS CRUCES – With near triple-digit temperatures expected to continue through the weekend, the City of Las Cruces has extended operations at its public cooling stations through Wednesday, July 29, providing relief for residents seeking a safe place to escape the heat.
Cooling stations are available for older adults, individuals at higher risk of heat-related illness, and anyone needing temporary relief from extreme temperatures. City officials encourage residents to call ahead to verify operating hours before visiting. There will be no cooling station services available on Sunday, July 26.
The Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, located at 200 E. Picacho Ave., is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The Mesilla Valley Intermodal Transit Terminal, 300 W. Lohman Ave., is available from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Meerscheidt Recreation Center, 1600 E. Hadley Ave., continues to serve as a cooling station despite ongoing construction. Designated public areas remain open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Several City senior centers are also operating as cooling stations Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., including the Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, Henry R. Benavidez Community Center, Munson Center, and Sage Café. All senior centers are closed on weekends.
The City of Las Cruces said it will continue monitoring weather conditions and may adjust cooling station operations as needed.
