LAS CRUCES – Doña Ana Community College has named Dr. Michael Pullin as its new Vice President of Academic Affairs, bringing more than two decades of higher education leadership and STEM experience to the college.
The appointment became effective July 1, with Dr. Pullin assuming responsibility for the academic operations of the college. His role includes overseeing academic programs, curriculum development, faculty support, and initiatives designed to strengthen student success across DACC’s campuses.
Dr. Pullin most recently served as Dean of Academic Initiatives at Queensborough Community College in Bayside, New York. Prior to that, he was Associate Dean of Science and Wellness at Broward College in Florida. He also spent a decade at New Mexico Tech in Socorro, where he served as both a faculty member and department head.
His educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Case Western Reserve University, along with both a master’s degree and doctorate in Analytical Chemistry from Kent State University. His career has focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics, commonly known as STEM, as well as research, teaching, public outreach, grant writing, curriculum development, and academic administration.
Community colleges serve nearly one-third of all college students in the United States and play a key role in workforce training, university transfer programs, career and technical education, and adult learning. In New Mexico, community colleges help prepare students for careers in healthcare, manufacturing, education, information technology, skilled trades, and other high-demand industries.
DACC, a branch community college of New Mexico State University, serves thousands of students each year throughout Doña Ana County by offering associate degrees, certificates, workforce training, and continuing education programs. College officials say Dr. Pullin’s combination of academic leadership and scientific expertise will help guide the institution as it continues to expand educational opportunities and meet the workforce needs of southern New Mexico.
