LAS CRUCES – The New Mexico Department of Transportation will host a final public meeting next week on the widening of University Avenue, also known as New Mexico State Road 101, from Avenida de Mesilla to South Main Street.
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Zia Middle School Cafeteria, located at 1300 New Mexico State Road 101 in Las Cruces.
NMDOT officials said the construction team will review what has been completed as part of the project and what work remains during the contractor’s punch list, or final to-do list. The team will also answer questions and accept public comments. Mayor Russell Hernandez is also expected to attend to address town concerns.
The project began in mid-December 2024 and included widening 1.419 miles of NM 101 from Avenida de Mesilla to South Main Street. Improvements also included new curb and gutter, sidewalks, a multi-use path, ADA ramps, storm drain and drainage structures, signage, roadway striping, lighting and railroad crossings.
Anyone needing ADA-related accommodations for the meeting may contact Ami Evans at 575-640-5981 or by email at ami.evans@dot.nm.gov.
