LAS CRUCES – La Llorona Park and its trail remain closed as City of Las Cruces crews continue cleanup efforts following rising water levels along the Rio Grande.

The City’s Parks and Recreation Department, along with City Park Rangers, closed the park and trail after recent rain and runoff caused water levels in the Rio Grande to rise.

The higher water deposited debris in and around the park and along portions of the trail, prompting the continued closure while crews clean the area and assess conditions.

City officials are asking the public to stay out of La Llorona Park and avoid using the trail until the cleanup and safety assessment have been completed.

The park and trail will remain closed until the City announces they are safe to reopen.
