LAS CRUCES – City of Las Cruces Finance Director Lesley Doyle has been recognized with a 2026 Recognition for Outstanding Public Service Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), a national honor celebrating exceptional leadership and service in public finance.
The award recognizes Doyle’s leadership during a challenging financial period for the City. She assumed the role of Finance Director as the City’s Fiscal Year 2025 audit identified a projected beginning balance shortfall of more than $10 million.
Working with City departments, executive leadership, the budget team, and the Las Cruces City Council, Doyle led efforts to clearly communicate the financial challenges and develop solutions that closed the budget gap without reducing essential public services.
Assistant Finance Director Josie Trevino credited Doyle with fostering trust and collaboration between the Finance Department and other City departments while promoting transparency and open communication throughout the organization.
Doyle transitioned to municipal government after a career in public education, bringing a leadership style focused on teamwork, proactive problem-solving, and building strong working relationships. City officials say her approach has strengthened the Finance Department and created a positive workplace culture.
The Government Finance Officers Association has published Doyle’s recognition on its website and will also feature her achievement in an upcoming GFOA newsletter and during its annual conference.
