LAS CRUCES – The Las Cruces Police Department will increase its efforts to keep impaired drivers off the road throughout the month of July by conducting at least one sobriety checkpoint and one saturation patrol within the city.
In addition to targeting drivers suspected of driving while intoxicated or impaired, officers will also enforce other traffic safety laws, including violations involving cell phone use, seat belt compliance, and child safety seat requirements.
LCPD says sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols are designed to reduce the number of impaired drivers and improve safety for everyone traveling on city streets.
Police are reminding anyone who plans to consume alcohol, cannabis, or other impairing substances to arrange for a designated driver or use a ride-share service to get home safely.
The enforcement efforts are funded through traffic safety initiatives aimed at reducing impaired driving and preventing crashes.
