LAS CRUCES – Quick action by Las Cruces firefighters prevented a garage fire from spreading to the rest of a home early Saturday morning.
Just before 4:30 a.m. Saturday, firefighters responded to a reported residential fire in the 4700 block of Big Springs Street. According to the Las Cruces Fire Department, the home’s occupants were alerted by working smoke alarms and safely evacuated before firefighters arrived.
The first arriving crew found an active fire in the home’s garage and immediately began an aggressive fire attack. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the garage, preventing it from spreading into the rest of the residence. The fire was brought under control within 16 minutes of the first crew’s arrival.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
